A lot of which have worked out very well for me. And will always continue my odd projects trying to force windows to behave exactly how I want. Like IE, Update, Activate, Cortana, WMP and so on. I will always be finding ways to rip components out of windows I consider to be insecure. Cazador will always snag updates the way he does. To me this is worth at least trying to do. This kinda thing could help alleviate the need to have VM's, that's if my idea works in the first place.lol Just imagine a world where you replace 1 folder and boom, windows is back the way you had it, completely. But i promise when I am done and if it actually works, I will share it all with the FL community. No clue how long this will take me to build. I may be able to actually avoid them altogether.

There are obvious dependency issues with wine components and varients as well and how to get it all to work just right.

But my idea is to build a specific windows layer inside wine from a physical windows install on one of my machines. Just not enough heads working on this together to sort it out. That and some other missing windows components that need to be built in to make it all work right.
My goal for a while has been to figure a way to forcing the server to run in wine. Which, for the most part, I have made very simple for myself to run. None the less I decided to help my old buddy out when he asked me to start taking care of the tech side of running the server. But we do have some people who could help with coding when needed. Already working on beginning years of learning code. I am not a coder, never said i was, so I am limited when C++ gets involved, for now. Running an FL server is new to me really. I am just starting to learn your server files for my own self. Though I am trying to show him how simple hook really is to use. He is fine with playercontrol, dpm and dam and somewhat with hook commands. Poor dude really has very little clue as to how to configure the server. Then there is the head Admin, he only took the server over to keep it afloat after Xevious quit. But will be happy with what we got for now. I'd much rather have the same tools you guys have. Though I am seriously thinking of zipping up a vdi with a 64bit win7 server installed and transferring it to the host as a more longterm solution adverse to sticking with the older hook for the life of the server. These guys only use Linux, so it is what they had onhand. The hosts, who are actually hosting as a friendly favor for us, gave us the server os they had for windows. Our current server is on a VM hosted on SUSE Enterprise.

I run the files mostly the way you guys do and patch when and what you patch only. And for the record, Cazador is not staff, just one of our many loonies. None of us told him to do things the way he does them either. IE, I use your updater instead of going the route the other guy does. At least as far as using the dev's intended tools. We have me, the guy who likes running the servers by the book for the most part. We have one guy, who hosts many Linux servers.
